    Hello, I heard an interview on CKNW that mentioned you can also help US Citizens w this process.

    My life partner, probably eventual husband lives in the US and has 2 DUI’s from over 10 years ago and we are not sure of the best way to go about dealing w this so he can come and go across the border to be with me.

    Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

    My story:


    Conviction: at age 25, possession with the intent to distribute (grow op, 2004). Indictable offense.


    Applied for a pardon 2009 with the “assistance” of Assured Pardons of Canada. This “company” was an absolute scam. Search “Joe Black Assured Pardons” on google. You’ll see the large list of complaints. He simply didn’t file my paperwork after accepting my full payment (around $800 I believe). After years of badgering, he finally filed the forms.


    Every year since 2012 I have called the Parole Board of Canada to check on my status. EVERY SINGLE TIME they have told me that my file has not yet been assigned and that it will likely be processed by the end of this or next year. Last week I called and heard the same exact reply.


    I am a good person who made one (very) poor decision over a decade ago. I am a family man, father, mentor. I have made nothing but good choices since my one indiscretion.


    The strange thing is that I have had a criminal record check done twice since then. Both times it came back negative (no record). I have also crossed the Canada/US border numerous times with no issues.


    Everytime I apply for a job, cross the border, etc, I live in fear that I’ll be denied, when clearly after more than a decade, I should have had my record expunged already.


    The system is broken. I hope you have success getting it back into working order.

    I wasn’t aware of this site until recently. I’ve been quite active on this issue and worked closely with John hutton from JHS during the fight against bill c10. I also wrote several editorials on the subject, appeared on CBC power and politics, spoke at the standing committee on the pardons issue among other things.
